So, I haven’t worked on any subtitling for quite some time. I have a job where we are busy in waves – brief intense waves, followed by sometimes weeks of almost total downtime. I actually worked on the majority of my subtitling work in these downtimes. Unfortunately for my hobbies, this pattern was broken this summer, and we’ve been constantly busy since. We’re still really busy right now, in fact.

I haven’t said anything here, because I was actually fairly embarrassed. I started this project and have had to set it by the wayside. I may well return to it at some point in the future – hope to, even. But at the moment the idea does not appeal. When I get home from work these days I mostly just want to sack out. So that’s the score, for now…

So, I’m not dead yet, and I will totally get back to subtitling in the very near future. Next up – Hi-Speed Jecy 08.

It looks like nyaa.eu has moved its torrent tracker, and are not redirecting to the new one. Fortunately, I use two other trackers as well, and or course DHT and PEX are still working, so as long as somebody is seeding the files they can still be obtained. But I guess I will have to remake the existing torrents with the new nyaa tracker if I wish that still to be usable. I’ll probably offer up Yagami as a single three-pack at that point, with some minor script corrections – I’ve been more focused on moving forward than going back to revisit that, but maybe this is a good opportunity to do so.

Jecy 8 will have to wait until September – I move next week, and then will actually have to go until September 1 without internet access. But it may be worth it, because I can get FIOS as my new apartment.

Long story short, no Jecy 7 yet, but I’ll try to finish it up this coming week. Jecy 8+ probably won’t happen until after I move.

Got the script back for Jecy 7, but I probably won’t have time to mess with it this week due to Otakon and a few other things – sorry!

Otakon updates: I realized I still have two disks I can get Masao Maruyama to sign, so that’s cool. If you’re looking to arrestmeet me for some reason, I’ll be the guy in the Maruyama and Ishiguro autograph lines with the shaved head and the laserdisc jackets…

The schedule this year SAYS there is more subtitled material being shown than the last year or two – we’ll see. Experience has shown that about half of what’s marked [S] in the schedule will, in fact, be shown dubbed. And yet despite the fact that they’ve been tricking me with that shit for years now, my hopes are still up again.

Jecy 7 is in the works – it may be ready within the week, in fact.

I have captured Jecy 1-2, which means I just need to capture episode 3 and I’ll have recapped everything. I may have some difficulty with episodes 11-12 due to some… I guess you’d call it luminance ghosting. I think I have an idea how to fix it up, but it’ll take some fiddling and there may be other visual tradeoffs that won’t be worth it – we’ll see.

Slight delay in The Visualist Collection raws – I’m re-encoding the Mikimoto collection, I may not have used the ideal encoding setting considering it isn’t actually animated as-such.

Usually I bring an assistant with me to Otakon (aka my girlfriend) to help me obtain more autographs, but this year she will not be able to join me. I might be willing to pay someone to sit in line with me to get extra autographs, but I haven’t really decided on that yet. Considering the line to see him will be disrespectfully short it may not even be an issue.

I was actually thinking of bailing on Otakon this year – at this point they only show dubbed anime, and I used to spend the majority of the convention zipping from theatre to theate, but I consider dubs to be abomination and will not watch them. So now I mostly go for autographs, but right up until a few days ago they hadn’t announced any guests I had any interest in. Sad.

The translator and I are doing the final checks on Jecy 6, and I have just sent Jecy 7 to the translator to begin the final checks. So, 6 at very least will probably be out this week, and 7 should follow close behind.

And please don’t waste time leaving comments along the lines of, “But THIS dub is really great,” because you’re wrong.

I’ve also begun work on raws for The Visualist Collection, which are hour-long art collections for Haruhiko Mikimoto and Kenichi Sonoda. Filtering has proved tricky, as they are a mix of live-action segments and static and/or pan-and-scan art slides instead of the animation I’ve been working with – but at least they were mastered well, so no grain, jitter, or other oddities. But the filtering process took 18+ hours for the Mikimoto collection, had to run it while I was away last weekend. I assume Sonoda will take just as long, so I’ll run it while I’m out this weekend. I don’t intend to subtitle these – there isn’t very much to subtitle, really.

If only they’d release Blake’s 7 on NTSC R1 DVD…
